Mount Oldoinyo Le Ngai is located in northern part of Tanzania. “Oldoinyo Le Ngai” is a Maasai term meaning “Mountain of God”. This mountain is the only active volcano in East Africa. Volcanic activity on the mountain has been observed from as far back as 1883, and it is still active today. The Oldoinyo Le Ngai mountain reaches a height of approximately 9442 feet. The Crater Highlands are part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is a reserve where the local communities live alongside the wildlife. The highlands consist of a range of Volcanoes-not all extinct-rising steeply from the side of the Great Rift Valley in Northern Tanzania. Hence they are more than JUST the Ngorongoro Crater with a number of impressive peaks, with steep escarpments, crater lakes, dense forests and grassy ridges, streams and waterfalls. The volcano of Ol-Doinyo-Lengai (2878m) is even active! It is also home to many Maasai people who have grazed cattle on the grasslands here for hundreds of years. Most walking is done at around the 3000mts mark. There are many options though available to the adventurous. Spend your day through visiting some historical area around with full evening lake shore walking.
ITINERARY:

DAY 01: Arusha to Lake Natron.
Morning after breakfast drive to Mtu-wa Mbu. Stop at one of the Maasai boma for culture learning before proceeding to Lake Natron.
CULTURE TIME: Reach the village and be welcomed with beautiful songs and dancing. Their boma’s has number of huts and number of Maasai habitants who live together as family, learn their ways of life, dress, making their own jeweler, grazing their cattle, how do they start making fire and dancing together listening to their songs is quite impressive. Your will be able to spend 2 hours have fun before proceeding to Lake Natron.
After lunch you’ll drive north along the bottom of the Great Rift Valley wall to Lake Natron and the village of Ngaresero at the base of Oldoinyo Lengai. Dinner and overnight relaxation at Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge.

DAY 02: Oldoinyo Lengai Trekking.
Today your climb will start at midnight and it will take around 5hrs to 6hrs whereby you will reach the summit in time to witness the amazing sunrise as it illuminates the Great Rift Valley. During your climb, you will be escorted by an experienced Maasai guide. After exploring the peak you will head back down the mountain to the base where your driver will be waiting for you to take you back to the camp to rest and freshen up before dinner and overnight at Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge.

DAY 03: Lake Natron Walking Tour & Waterfalls Visit.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lake Natron for walking tour around the lake, an alkaline lake that serves as the principal breeding site for three-quarters of the world’s population of Lesser Flamingoes. After your tour of Lake Natron, you will head back to the Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge for dinner and overnight relaxation.

DAY 04: Lake Natron to Arusha – Departure.
After breakfast at your camp site, you will then be transferred back to Arusha direct to Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will board your flight back to your lovely country.
